Sunshine Centres Receives Ontario150 Community Capital Grant
Renovating the Camp Sunshine building on Ward’s Island has long been an ambition of ours. Today, we are enormously excited and honoured to announce Sunshine Centres will be able to achieve this goal thanks to a $250,000 capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Ontario150 Community Capital Program.
This capital funding will be added to a generous contribution from the City of Toronto and Sunshine Centre’s own renovation fund. Together, we will make the building on Ward’s Island more accessible and functional for the approximately 1,900 seniors who visit our Camp Sunshine program during the summer months.
Specifically, we plan to:
- – Increase the number of overall washroom stalls as well as the number of wheelchair accessible stalls
- – Add an accessible universal washroom
- – Carry out structural repairs to wood beams, skylights, and windows
- – Install new exterior cladding
- – Replace the roof
Camp Sunshine is integral to our aim of helping seniors live active and connected lives, and these renovations will help us continue this work well into the future.
We’re still growing our renovation fund, so if you would like to be a part of this exciting and meaningful project, please donate today. We greatly appreciate your support.
